Bathurst 2009
Saturday 25th - Sunday 26th July 2009

Oh my god, that was one of the best weekends i've had, what a fantastic time was had by all!!!

What an absolute ripper of a weekend away with The GT Club Inc family.

Firstly I have to thank two people for if it wasn't for them I think I might not have come. I was over it!

The Polar Bear was playing games but I wasn't interested in playing, I rang Grizzly and asked for advice, and like usual it was drop everything and he came and helped...and brought his trusty sidekick The Penguin? Tim.

The Polar Bear's timing was way out, the carby was running too lean, half an hour later she was ready to race! So a MASSIVE thanks to Tony and Tim, because my dad and I were starting to lose our tempers.

So now I knew the Polar Bear was up to the task, I settled in for the night got and early night in, in bed by 2am then up at 5 to drive to the Macedon's to help pack the cars etc.

After making sure everything was in the cars, we set off for Lonestar upon arrival we were greeted by about half a dozen cars and some very keen members ready for our Bathurst Weekend away.

The day didn't quite go to plan, we were running a bit late, we took off for Glenbrook and I think we made good time. Glenbrook Information Centre was a great sight with some 15-20 GT's gleaming in the morning sun. The usual chat ensued, the route to Bathurst was issued then we finally hit the road...The Mountain beckoned.

It was a really nice drive, the sun was shining on The GT Club as we rumbled our way to Bathurst via The O'Connell Pub for lunch.

Well as Tony mentioned, the Grizzly Bear was in limp mode, and unfortunately decided to stop so this is where the drive got 'interesting'. You see we got broken up as a group, our trusty leaders; Rob and Grizzly were stranded at the roadside, half the pack continued on quite rapidly and the other half, who didn't stop and help Tony and Rob were some five minutes behind, but this five minutes means alot in the country's twisty roads.
After some u-turns along the way we did meet up at Tarana.
And now the trip got really interesting; I made a decision and informed our new leader - Tim to do a quick u-turn and head up the road that pointed towards Bathurst. But as we started up our GT's again, a local drives past and Tim asked "is this the way we should be going to Bathurst or the O'Connell Pub and she replied "yeah". So we started off again, the roads looked surprisingly narrow but we continued. Then up ahead we encountered dirt...we hesitated, but with John guided by his GPS signaled the pub is not far.

Well I don't recall actually how long this 'detour' lasted but I turned and said to Nicole that this trip, this getting lost with The GT Club will be remembered for many many years to come.

We did finally get off the dirt and back onto what looked like the right way, but something just didn't seem right still. At this stage Tony rang and said "where the bloody hell are ya" and after explaining, he worked out where we were, and came and got us. We weren't far off, just some ten odd kays North West of the Pub.

We made it to the Pub, later than scheduled but there was a collective sigh of relief to be out of the wilderness! Lunch and a few amber ales were ordered, stories new and old were told, and everyone seemed too happy and content after a very nice looking lunch. Well at least for everyone else, you see there was a mix up with the orders; Rob got my Prime Rib Eye and I got lumped with nothing! Well this was obviously quite amusing to all, but for me who hadn't eaten all day, was quite bemusing. I asked for my money back and asked for a burger, which the waiter kindly obliged but this proved to be a mistake, as later on in the evening I was feeling really sick. So sick that I didn't even touch any of the food that 'cooks' prepared for Saturday evenings BBQ!
I did enjoy some sweets, later in the evening although I was still feeling very out of sorts.

It was a great night though, lots of laughs, the fires were a huge magnet for many as the night was quite brisk. Just about everyone, even the little ones stayed until the later part of the night until about 10:30-11pm.

The atmosphere was just buzzing!
Cheers
