Wakefield Track Day
Saturday 17th July 2009

What a day!!!

That was truely the most fun i've had on four wheels!

We met on the M5 at 6am, about seven cars turned up and headed down to Wakefield. A few fuel stops inbetween, final fuel stop at Goulbourn and to re-group. We then cruised on into Wakefield, parked the cars and checked in with Julie and the Wakefield Office to register.

After a driver's briefing, then a quick briefing from Rob K to our members we were clear to race!

Groups of ten cars at a time were steadily let out onto the track in roughly fifteen minute stints.

There were some standout cars racing, including; silver XA GT, Capri 393, Louie's customers car and the Grizzly Bear was also carving up the field.

As fun as it was to spectate, with various drivers pushing their cars to the limits of performance and ultimately - traction, it was time to jump in a car, so Norm invited me to ride shotgun in his BF GT.

Wow i was impressed, Norm seemed to be doing quite well and the BF GT sounded alright as it was being pushed through the gears, then a bit too much stick after the "fishhook" and we were doing 360's into the grass! HAHAHAHAH

After Norm's go, he gave me the keys (thanks heaps Norm) so i tried to cut some good times, Tim was my passenger and i think i scared him a few times especially when i lost it sorry Norm.

Later on Brett took me for some hot laps, oh my god that Typhoon is a weapon around Wakefield. Once again, Brett decided unwillingly to cut some grass, and after his go i had my turn. Now i know this may be the wrong thing to admit but Brett's Typhoon was absolutely amazing; it was one sweet thrill ride!
True to my form like in Norm's, i decided to test it's limits and unfortunately went spinning off the track. The comforting thing though is that unless you did something totally stupid the worst that happened was getting the car dirty.

To top the day off, Disco gave me the keys to the SSS Pulsar and what an unassuming car, what a little weapon, lots of fun!

Thanks to Norm, Brett and Disco for trusting me with your cars, Julie for the invite for our club and Rob K. for organising on behalf of our club.

I think this Wakefield Racing Day could quite easily become an annual event for our club, The GT Club!

And i look forward to the next time we race!!!
