Fords In The Park 2009
Sunday 22nd March 2009

What a top day for the GT Club.

Had a great day with the sun shining and conditions generally perfect for just parking the cars and sitting and admiring the views.

The day kicked off with a group of us meeting at Lonestar at Chullora and then setting off to the park in West Ryde/Denistone. We kept in single file (a dozen cars or) so and made our way cruising in the brilliant morning sunshine.

One thing I must say about our club is that everyone cruises together. None of that lets fly to the destination in separate packs and see who gets their first.

Of course our arrival at the grounds made for an eye opening view as the FPV club and other associated parked cars watched as we assembled approx 20+ cars along the perimeter of the ground. I think that other than the hosting club, we were the biggest display there and probably only a few short of the FPV display.

As Rob M correctly noted, we had the sun shine on the GT Club display and probably a good thing as we reckon the plastic on the other side may have melted LOL!!!

Anyway we had our tents set-up and cars arranged with Steven Koutles having the honour of the club banner flying proudly over his lovely XB GT sedan.

We managed to sign up a couple more members and generally our display was well received and quite the drawcard.

Brad Garlick had the new model FG ‘s displayed, again probably very hard to get excited over these latest GT’s. One can’t help but feel that the future of Ford/FPV has to strongly rely on the back of a past legend. I guess whatever gets the registers ticking, but full marks for trying with their latest products.
All in all however, a great day with Pinky announcing proceedings and the event raising lots of funds for a worthy charity for the Children’s Hospital.

I managed to forget my camera and Rob in his rush to get posts and banners organised, forgot his camera’s memory card. Grizzly kindly lent me his iPhone and I got to take some shots of the day which I will post up in due time.

Overall a very nice and relaxing day, the boys sat around the tents having cool soft drinks with the usual pisstaking and stories/laughs had by all.

Special mention to Deano for co-ordinating with the FPV club, George A for making a special efforts to bring 3 cars to the event and last but not least Rob Macedon! Rob again forsaking himself to haul around our club banners, posts, signs, etc. Good to see a President who puts others first.

Anyway look forward to catching up with our club members for the next run. I believe a drive in night is being touted and of course we will have our usual Harry’s this Saturday night.

Till the next one.

Cheers,
Disco.
